As a matter of fact, many customers don’t give much consideration on the application and selection of epoxy floor before epoxy works.  In many cases, customer surf internet first and get some simple information, then they start to ask for prices from suppliers and find the supplier with the lowest price. However, in this way, customers will find many problems after construction. At last, they will regret for the choice they did.

I find a few customers will discuss with you about how to use and select epoxy floor, how to select it according to its on-site conditions. Many project in-charge persons of the owner do not have professional knowledge on epoxy floor. They evaluate and choose the suppliers normally based on their personal factors. Therefore, the finished epoxy floor cannot satisfy the requirements.

The primary consideration for project owner should be given to the match between Industrial epoxy floor construction and using conditions. When surveying on-site conditions or are in the process of construction, we find many project owner are renovating their epoxy floors for the second or even the third time. As we all know, renovation of epoxy floor will bring about big troubles like work shut-down, influencing normal production, zone classification and equipment protection. These are complicated at great costs.

Then, how to select epoxy floor?

For project owner, he must give consideration to the application environment of epoxy floor: indoor or outdoor? Traffic frequency and loading? Air cleanliness class? On-site temperature and humidity? Any requirements on static and corrosion resistance ?  All these must be considered by project owners before they choose epoxy floors.

Here are four epoxy floor plans we provided for your reference:

  1. Dust-free Treatment (Basic Type)

Plan One: One-time epoxy primer + two-times epoxy resin paint + one-time finishing paint

Plan Two: One-time epoxy primer + One-time finishing coat (4:1) + two-times finishing coat

Plan Three: One-time epoxy primer + two-times finishing coat

  1. Transparent and Dust-free Treatment

Plan One: Penetration and Reinforcement by concrete sealing hardener

Plan Two: Penetration and Reinforcement by epoxy hardener (1:1)

Plan Three: Reinforcement and Sealing by epoxy primer (1:1)

  1. Corrosion-resistance Treatment

Plan One: normal epoxy floor can stand 10% weak acid and weak base

Plan Two: corrosion-resistance epoxy primer + glass fiber fabric laying + two-time epoxy corrosion-resistance mortar + corrosion-resistance putty layer + corrosion-resistance

finishing coat

  1. Damp Floor Treatment

Epoxy resin paint cannot be applied for damp floor, otherwise blistering and decrustation will occur. For the floors of ground floor or basement, the water and damp resistance plan should be adopted.

Plan One: water-based epoxy primer + two-times water-based primer mixed with silica sand + one or two-times water-based epoxy middle coat mixed with silica sand and talcum powder + water-based finishing coat

Plan Two:  use concrete sealing hardener. It is water-based material, suitable for the application of damp floor

I believe many customers hold same view that the epoxy flooring should be of low price, long service life and meeting using requirements. Through the above analytics, I think you can have a general idea.

It’s true that everyone want a low-price thing, but what matter most is can the low-cost thing meet requirements and endurable. All customers I met don’t give too much consideration to epoxy flooring and think it is simple. This is also the reason why finally spent more money on floor innovation.

Epoxy floor account for only a small part of whole architectural construction, however, it is a key part of qualification works like GMP certification for pharmaceuticals, HACCP certification for food industry and environmental certification of ISO 40001.

All in all, every project owner or in-charge person in different industry should give full consideration and study on the selection of epoxy floor.
